Ultra Luxury self catering accommodation
Lodge situated on the beach
25 km’s from Kosi bay

“beautifully tranquil”

Coming from Gauteng, take the N4 Witbank Highway. Go past the Middleburg off ramp and take the Hendrina off ramp. Turn right to Hendrina.

This road takes you through Hendrina to Ermelo. Follow this road to Piet Retief and then on to Pongola.

Please note: Your Garmin might show you a shorter route through Bethal but having travelled this road a number of times, the standard of the roads on the route we are suggesting is better with far less super link coal trucks.

In between Piet Retief and Pongola, there are a number of stoppages for road works. Expect to spend up to an hour at these road works.

Go through Pongola and approximately 50 kms take the Jozini turn off. This road takes you up and over the mountain to Jozini. Go through Jozini (mind the speed humps) and on the other side of Jozini keep left. The road will take you over the dam wall. Travel for approx 50 kms (please watch out for pot holes) until you reach a t-junction. Turn right. This road takes you to Manguzi (or Kosi Bay). This road has very bad sections with some large pot holes.

Once on Manguzi, fill up with fuel, both vehicle and quads (if applicable).

Keep going through Manguzi and straight on to the Kosi Bay Border.

At the Kosi Bay Border (SA side), have your car papers ready. The passenger can take all the passports in to emmigration (same counter as immigration) and have passports scanned and stamped. Know the vehicle registration number. The driver will do the detail with the SAPS.

Proceed through the border on to the Mozambique side. The passport person will need to fill in a small border form per passport.

The driver will park and proceed to the office on the left hand side to complete car papers. Have them all with you as well as drivers license as you need to fill in engine number, chassis number etc. Cost here for the vehicle ranges from R10 to R17, depending on the current rate of exchange. The driver must also go to the insurance kiosks and organise third party insurance (compulsory). Cost is R150 for the car and R70 for the trailor.

If you are not sure of your vehicles (or yours) capability in sand, let air out of the tyres down to say 1.5 bar. Open the cooler box now and get a ice cold liquid refreshment as your holiday has just started.

Proceed through the opening in the fence. There are 2 roads, keep to the left (follow signs to Ponto Mamoli). Keep on this road until you get to Ponto Malongane. At a number of stages the road splits. Do not panic as the road always come back together. The road is not marked on the Garmin.

Take the left fork at Ponto Molangane and keep going north until you come to a sign that says Baleia Azul right.

GPS Co-ordinates as follows:

S 26 deg 44.271
E 032 deg 54.244

Follow that road over the hill for approximately 2 kilometres until you come to the entrance of Baleia Azul.
